WEEKLY ROUND-UP: 3-9 JUNE

WEEKLY ROUND-UP: 3-9 JUNE

Alex Haffner10 Jun - 08:23

Junior teams to the fore and a great start for the 1sts to their league campaign

Another good week for club LMVCC with our Junior teams very much to the fore

Tuesday evening say the u11s in action losing to a strong Southgate team by 5 wickets, but they very much made up for that on Wednesday evening with a thrilling 2 run win at Botany Bay scoring 109-4 and restricting the oppo to 107 with Cooper Glass the last over hero conceding only 2 runs. Over at Camdenians, the U15s scored 131-7 off their 20 with Daniel Baker 33 and Levi Roediger putting on 77 and Rafi Zackheim scoring a brilliant 32 off 12 balls! In reply Southgate Compton fell 20 runs short.

On Thursday evening, our u13s got their first league win convincingly beating Botany Bay by restricting them to only 78-6 off their 20 overs (3 wickets for Aaron Pater) and reaching the target in 9 overs with 22* from Isaac Jacobs and 19 from Noah Klippin.

Yesterday (Sunday), the day started with over 40 kids at training which was quite a sight!

In the afternoon, the 1sts took on Brondesbury in our first Chess Valley League game. New skipper Ben Lederman lost the toss (on purpose he claimed) and we were given the opportunity to bowl first. That proved to be a blessing as we ripped through the Brondesbury line-up, in particular 15 year old Rafi Quint making his 1st team debut who took 6-24 off 8.2 overs including a hat trick! Ably assisted by Ben Lederman with 2-4 off 3 overs we bowled out the oppo for 125.

Despite the loss of a couple of early wickets, Dan Grusd took his seasons tally to over 200 runs without being dismissed with a brutal 80 not out and LMVCC ran out winners by 7 wickets.

Over at Southgate CC, the 2s fielded probably our youngest ever league team, with 9 school age kids playing a very strong Boxmoore team in Chess Valley Div 2. Despite being on the wrong end of the result (141 vs 300), the boys acquitted themselves very well, particularly the "Baker Boys" Avi (36) and Daniel (6 overs for 14), but captain Jack Davis took the plaudits with 5-68.

Lots to be proud of this week and we go again over the next 7 days.

Before signing off, I'd like to pay special tribute this week to Jack Davis who (as noted above) stepped up to captain the 2s and, as well as helping to run this site, has generally been a massive help since he joined the committee a few months back. As you all know, it's only with hard work from the likes of Jack that this club can continue to succeed.

Chag Sameach,

Alex Haffner
Club Chair
